BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Nancy Aikens has had a long career in finance and insurance at NatWest, Prudential, and TIAA-CREF. Now at Allstate, she handles elder-related issues, such as long-term health insurance and estate planning. 

Leonard Bayer has been the Chief Operating Officer of the Goodstein Organization, a real estate development firm founded in 1927, for over 20 years. Prior to that, he held several positions where his expertise in marketing, finances, and technology was highly regarded throughout the industry.

Denise Kellen, Chairman of the Board, is a former Wall Street bond trader and is currently a partner in an on-line art gallery. She is a graduate of Wellesley College and serves as co-chair of the college's New York Leadership Gifts Committee.

Arthur Lindner, MD, is a graduate of the University of Rochester School of Medicine. He did his residency in internal medicine at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor and was a fellow in gastroenterology at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York. He is a faculty member of the New York University School of Medicine and an attending physician at Tisch and Bellevue Hospitals. He has been a member of the Board of Directors of COHME for over 20 years.

Frank Rosengarten, PhD, is a professor emeritus of Italian and comparative literature of the City University of New York. He is the author and editor of five books on 19th and 20th century Italian and French literary and political history. He is also the author of Urbane Revolutionary -- C.L.R. James and the Struggle for a New Society, published in 2008 by the University Press of Mississippi.

COHME's FOUNDER

Lucy Rosengarten, ACSW, BCD, founded COHME, was its first executive manager from 1984-2002, and then continued to guide the agency as a board member. Under Lucy's visionary leadership, COHME has been fulfilling its dual mission of providing superior care to our elderly clients and crucial support services for our health care workers for nearly thirty years. In addition to her trailblazing work at COHME, Lucy taught case management and cooperativism in various academic and community settings. Her many articles appeared in leading social work and nursing journals, and her book Social Work in Geriatric Home Health Care: The Blending of Traditional Practice with Cooperative Strategies was published by the Haworth Press in 2000.
Lucy passed away on December 1, 2011, after a four-year struggle with cancer. Her vision and accomplishments will continue to inspire us at COHME in the years to come.

DIRECTOR EMERITA

Emma Shulman, LCSW, MPS, is a senior counselor, gerontologist, and consultant at the Aging and Dementia Research Center at the NYU School of Medicine. For many years, she has initiated, written, and planned conferences to educate home health aides, social workers, professionals, and the public on memory problems, ranging from mild cognitive impairment to Alzheimer’s Disease.

INDEPENDENT ACCOUNTING CONSULTANT

David Ashenfarb, CPA, is a partner in Schall & Ashenfarb, CPA’s, LLC and the director of the firm's not-for-profit services and quality-review divisions. Mr. Ashenfarb is a past chairperson of the NYSCPA’s Not-for-Profit Organizations Committee. He  has published articles and speaks regularly on the diverse topics affecting not-for-profit organizations.
