Noelle is originally from Guyana and came to the United States in 2011. She has been with COHME for about seven years. In her free time, she doesn’t socialize much, but is a devoted Christian. She worships by faith, attends church in Brooklyn, reads the Bible, and takes care of her home. She currently lives in Queens. She has three sons, all of whom now serve in the U.S. Navy, while her daughter still resides in Guyana.

Let’s get to know a little more about Noelle:

What inspired you to enter this field?

I was inspired by my mother. She was ill before I came to the U.S., and I took care of her for five years while living in Guyana. After moving here, I decided to become a home health aide because I realized how much I valued caring for others.

What’s it like working as a home health aide?

Working in home health has given me a deeper understanding of both the field and myself. As I take care of my clients, I’ve learned so much from them, not just about caregiving but also about how to take better care of myself. With more experience, I’ve become more confident and familiar with how to meet each client’s unique needs.

What do you enjoy about working with older adults?

I enjoy working with elderly people because I genuinely care about them. Supporting and helping them comes from a place of compassion and empathy. It often reminds me of my mother and the time we spent together, which is very emotional for me. Being able to connect with and assist older adults means a lot to me.

What are some challenges you've faced?

I haven’t faced many challenges at COHME. I’ve met many wonderful clients here, even better than my previous ones. Every day when I go to work, people appreciate the effort I put in. I take my work seriously, am always professional, arrive on time, and my clients like me.

How have your career goals evolved?

My career goals haven’t changed much, and this will be my lifelong goal. I just like taking care of the elderly. I prefer working with this group of people. I love COHME, and I want to keep working for it. They’re very efficient. Whenever I call, they’re always here to assist me with whatever situation. I have worked for different agencies, so I’ve compared them, and COHME remains my favorite and best employer.

Has this work changed you?

I haven’t changed that much, but this work has helped me see life from different perspectives by working with people. It has made me more knowledgeable about health. I’ve learned to take better care of myself than before. I changed my eating habits and now eat healthier. I learned about nutritious foods by listening to my patients.

How do you balance work and life?

I balance my life very well. My husband also works, and we have different schedules, but at the end of the day, we make time for each other. When he comes home, I prepare dinner and serve the food. We have family discussions, sometimes watch movies, or go out to dinner together. I feel very comfortable with my family and have a happy home and marriage.

What’s been your biggest reward?

My biggest reward is being independent and living a comfortable life. I’m able to earn my own money instead of relying on my children, and I’m very healthy. My boys tell me I don’t have to work and that they can take care of me, but I love earning money on my own.
